Our Humble Beginnings, at Basecamp, began back in 1993 as a special kind of summer camp, for a unique group of individuals.

Three ordinary guys with an extraordinary vision saw a need within the lives of average Canadian teens, the need to be more than average; to be more than another statistic. These teens wanted something different; a way to meet new challenges, explore newfound abilities, strengths and weaknesses.

It became our quest at Basecamp to meet this need, so we humbly began with a few backpacks, two tents and the great Canadian wilderness.

On our very first summer we set off on this noble quest with four teens. The results of this experience were astounding; as we traveled for seven days through the Stein River Valley we grew together, depended on one another and became a close knit team, we experienced life on a whole new level.

As we watched these teens encourage each other, deal with personal issues and rise to meet new challenges we realized that the potential of what we were discovering far exceeded our original expectations. Since that moment we haven’t looked back. Today Basecamp has grown to meet the needs of all ages, year round in three countries.

Now we introduce our clients to their own potentials through, Foreign Service, mountaineering, rock climbing, and wilderness backpacking. We have spent thousands upon thousands of hours in the wilderness with hundreds of clients, many of who return to us year after year for new challenges and experiences. Most recently we have expanded into a college and developed a wilderness leadership-training program for individuals that share our passion and want to be a part of Stoney Creek and the Basecamp family. By expanding our base, Basecamp hopes to reach into more countries and communities around the world.

Today we are still a special kind of camp for a unique group of individuals. Things have come a long way since those early days with two tents, but one thing has remained the same; our commitment to help those we serve rise above mediocrity and discover new dimensions of themselves and the world they live in.
